Nancy Steen

Nancy Steen, painter and printmaker, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Gonzaga University and did graduate work at New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico. After producing a series of lithographs at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she moved to California and founded her own lithography workshop, New Leaf Press, producing her lithographs and publishing lithographs for other Bay Area and New York artists. Her lithography and paintings are a combination of realism with fantasy that utilize subtle colors and depth. Steen’s exacting, technical ability and adept use of color confirm her as one of the Southwest’s outstanding talents.

The artist has shown her work at major juried, invitational and one-woman exhibitions throughout the United States and Canada. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Oakland Museum of Art, Phoenix Art Museum, Denver Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Colgate University Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Art in Montgomery, Alabama, Roswell Museum and Art Center, Monterey Peninsula Museum, University of Calgary Museum and the Museum of New Mexico. Several corporate and private collections are Chase Manhattan Bank, Pacific Telephone Company, Environmental Protection Agency, Congress Factors, Nabisco World Headquarters, Prudential Insurance and the Bank of America.
